What's the use of the concept of "pseudoscience"?

Something is a science or is not, there are no intermediate points. I think that what people usually call "pseudoscience" would be more accurately described as "misconception", "scam" or "hoax". Also, there are forms of knowledge (like theology) that do not fall under any of those categories, and that are not science either. To me, the term "pseudoscience" may imply that science is the ultimate form of knowledge, and that any other form of knowledge is "pseudos" insofar as is not science, wich is absurd. Furthermore, does calling something a "pseudoscience" really promotes critical thinking towards it? Is there any use of the concept besides disregarding other people's beliefs?
